Turns up to 200 Rotten Flax automatically,
but slowly, into Lint, Straw and Tow. Needs *two* characters to start - one must Start the flax gin, while the other picks the Stabilize option on the Flax Gin's menu. The timing for this is not particularly tight - notably and conveniently, you will likely be able to spouse-log and have your spouse Stabilize the gins you Start. It is the only building in the game that absolutely and always requires two players to operate, and is a questionable anomaly in the modern game. (Yeah, that's editorializing. True though)

There is a minimum player level required to operate it. Believed to be level 10, but it is confirmed to be at least level 9.

Can be tuned with the Mechanics skill.

Upgrade the base and hopper
Improves the capacity to 600 Rotten Flax.

* 400 requires::Concrete
* 4 requires::Copper Sheeting

Further upgrade the base and hopper
Improves the capacity to 1200 Rotten Flax.

* 300 requires::Board
* 800 requires::Concrete
* 30 requires::Steel Sheeting

Other Upgrades
Flax Gins may be tuned using the Mechanics skill to run more quickly, and/or further upgraded with a requires::Springbox to run more quickly still. Flax Gins with Springboxes may display unusual behavior: They process flax multiple units at a time, and simply stop if there is less Rotten Flax in the hopper than their unit for that step. It is seemingly possible to have a flax gin processing a non-integer amount of flax per step behind the scenes - this causes alternating amounts processed in successive steps, e.g. a gin processing 3.x will produce 3 flax one step, then 4 flax the next.
Uses
* You enter the water by walking straight up into it.
* Swimming is done similarly to running in that left-clicking somewhere will swim you there (but right-clicking won't stop you). Terrain steepness is a factor in determining where you can and cannot move. If you're swimming in rivers or lakes, this should not be a big deal. However, this means you can't go too far out into the Red Sea or Mediterranean Sea.
* To get out of the water, click on dry land, or select the Stop Swimming option from your Special menu. Be careful: it is possible to leave the water in places where you can't get back in.
* To Dive: RIGHT CLICK on the water where you wish to dive
The most basic type of shovel, produced at a requires::Carpentry Shop out of 2 requires::boards and 1 stone blade.

It is used in group digs to dig for stones, and can also be used to gather dirt from the ground. Both uses require dirt terrain.

Slate shovels are fragile and will break after a number of uses. Carrying several is recommended for heavy-duty digging. Or, for best results, use a regular metal shovel (when available) which will never break.
