Tehm's Elder Election Manifesto

Intro

Hi, I'm tehm (once tehmoosh) and I'm a candidate for the first Elder Election! My opponent has declined a debate, so I'll use other forums to give you some insights into who I am. I've been playing since T3, including on Bastet. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and why I might be the right person for you Elder vote. I play ATITD because I love being part of this societal evolution with one of the most amazing communities you will come across online.

My Primary Game Goals:

• Have fun! Like many of us I hop from activity to activity like a squirrel after a nut. I am not a mass grinder and that influences the rest of my play style
• Bring a light-hearted spirit to the game to break the tedium of grinding or running long distances
• Pursue the challenges of Tests and finding rare resources- herbs, mushrooms, cicadas
• Help others learn to play (update the wiki, explain processes, work out puzzles together, etc.)
• Give others ideas of how they too can contribute and push Hyksos (or Egypt) forward in our evolution - through Research call-outs, Fish 'n' Digs, and general cooperation on #discovery
  • I may not host the most digs, but I did host the first because I foresaw a need to dig for Research before the weekend passed us by. When I see a need, I will seek to address it

As Elder I will:

• Focus even more on helping people enjoy the game and feel wanted & appreciated here in Hyksos
• Maximize collaboration and reduce duplicated efforts among our regions' Guilds
• Work with my Hyksos co-Elders along with the Meshwesh Tribe and Kush representatives to reduce tensions in the region and improve collaborations

A non-elected Hyksos representative, without consultation of the Hyksos people, is working in the shadows to segment Egyptian regions!

1. This segmentation also includes potential Faction Eviction if you tribute to a treaty territory
2. While I too have brought up the idea of "core territories" with another faction's Elder in the limited context of preventing Obelisk griefing, I explicitly put off conversation of what "core territory" meant or what consequences might be-- because I do not have that authority from the people and would not assume to without discussion with my people! Other leaders apparently think they already have that right and power, and are already threatening to enforce it using Evictions to which they haven't yet earned.

• Being Elder would allow me to step into discussions with the other Factions. About territory? Maybe. About trading regions to share technology- I would love to! But these discussions would be known to the Hyksos, not for "in-the-know" people only. My leadership will be open, thoughtful, and respectful.

Some people are feeling threatened or infuriated by certain community leaders for stating a different view, for helping a friend in another Faction, or for embracing their weird cattle dung fetish (ok maybe that hasn't come up, yet). I do not want my comrades quitting 1 month into this Tale because of their Leadership.

• I will seek to soften the hostile tones of others, keeping things civil and friendly.

Debate Issues / Response

QUESTION: one of your faction members lives in an area outside the main ones. You come to a decision based upon discussions with the other elders of your faction that you're not going to fight for that one and in return an opposing faction agrees not to go for one that you want to keep. What do you do if one of your faction people decides to donate at the tribute post to take over that region anyway? The person is part of your faction and wants to have their home camp within faction chat.
tehm: If, under the authority of the Hyksos, I were to develop a Treaty with other Factions on dividing Egyptian regions, I would include negotiations on the repercussions at that time and I would try to speak to members of affected regions before ratifying the Treaty. Perhaps they would be willing to move if helped? Perhaps they wouldn't mind switching factions so they'd get a faction chat back? Perhaps they don't mind either way because their guild chat keeps them busy.
If we came to agreement, I would most likely have fought for a 2-3 strike clause, such as:

• First offense - Slap on the wrist. "Look we want you to enjoy faction chat, but for the greater good we have agreed not to conquer this region. Please don't do it again." Once again - we can help you move to another location where you could have chat and this wouldn't be an issue.
• Second offense - (if 3 strikes) Same as above, but more strongly. And we'd pay closer attention to the Tribute levels for the week, helping the "rightful owner" take it back as soon as possible.
• Third offense - Eviction. This is not desirable, but at this point I'd call it griefing.
