We have a new Wiki! With it comes some great changes! If you're a Wiki enthusiast, here's an overview of what to look for:
+
{{:Project:About}}

* Semantic MediaWiki is now installed and fully functional (by popular request). Previously used semantic properties will need to be recreated as they were not functional on the Desert Nomad Wiki and were removed from all pages well over a month ago.

* Several new extensions have been added to the Wiki which will allow lots of new functionality, mostly in creating enhanced templates. The new extensions are:

** [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Loops Loops]

** [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:LoopFunctions Loop Functions]

** [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Variables Variables]

** [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Character_Escapes Character Escapes]

* Improved search functionality using the [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CirrusSearch Elasticsearch] search engine.

* Massive speed improvements through several layers of caching, use of content delivery networks, and other infrastructure considerations of a technical nature. Everything on the Wiki should now be blazing fast 24/7.

* (minor) Cleaner URLs: The <code>index.php?title=</code> is now neatly hidden in URLs and a shorter domain name makes for a cleaner looking experience. (e.g. <code><nowiki>https://atitd.wiki/tale8/Bricks</nowiki></code> is now <code><nowiki>https://atitd.wiki/tale8/Bricks</nowiki></code>)

With these changes in place, work will now begin on overhauling a lot of content making the Wiki more robust, tidy, and accurate. If you're interested in helping out, consider joining [[READ - The Wiki Guild]] in-game. Our Guild Hall is located in Upper Egypt (829, -1833), just North of the Koptos Chariot Stop. Otherwise, we'll be active in the #wiki-editing channel on Discord, as well. If nothing else, please let us know if you have any ideas or other feedback for us and we'd also like to encourage you to fill out our [[READ - The Wiki Guild/Survey|one question survey]] about how you use the Wiki. The surveys give us a better idea how Egypt uses the Wiki and helps us know where to focus our efforts.

A Tale in the Desert

A Tale in the Desert

A Tale in the Desert is a Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game (MMO) set in ancient Egypt. The game focuses on crafting and trading, mixed with strong social challenges, and has absolutely no combat and death is rare. Within the game is one of the most complex trade skill systems that have ever been created. This is coupled with tests in various disciplines that challenge players to work together or against each other. There is a discipline to meet almost any interest.

Perhaps most unique is that the game actually has an ending and a new telling starts up with players back at ground zero. The 8th incarnation began on Friday 2nd March 2018, and is the first tale under the ownership of Desert Nomad Studios

The game is a great sociological experiment, asking questions like "What will happen if players can completely control the world through the use of laws?" and "Will players work together in a project when working against each other could potentially have more benefit to one of them?". Tale 8 continues with this ethos, with the emphasis on discovery.
