Deep Well

  • Activity: Winding the Deep Well
  • Requires: Non-negative Strength stat (a Strength stat of 0 and above)
  • Supplies: None required to wind
  • Location: 927, 2362, on the Hill between Rock Compound and Animal Buildings
  • Level: Any (can be done by non-Guilded players too)
  • Destination: Leave in well, or stash in Warehouse at 927, 2364 labelled "Petroleum, Deep Well Repair Materials"

To make Petroleum, we need to routinely wind the Deep Well. If nobody winds it, it will break and require repair at the cost of 50 Leather and 50 Oil.

Every minute the spring tension will decrease by one, and add 5 petroleum into the well. You will not be able to wind it if it's tension is already at 100 or above, and the well will break if the tension reaches 0.

If you click on the Deep Well, and there's a menu entry "Wind the well spring", then you may be able to help!

Just click on the menu "Wind the well spring", and it will start your Endurance timer, and add your strength plus 1 to the spring tension. So even if you have 0 strength, then you will still be able to add some tension. The endurance timer is harsh, up to a couple minutes if you have 0 endurance, so by all means go do something else, then come back when your endurance timer allows.

Note: If the Spring Tension value 100 or more, you won't be able to wind it. Don't worry, it costs nothing to try! The spring tension goes down by 1 every minute, so you can work out roughly when you can do it again (take the spring tension, deduct 100, and that will be how may minutes before you can wind again). If your endurance timer is red, you won't be able to wind it. If you do try, just click Ok on the prompt, and come back when your endurance is not bright red. It does no harm to the deep well if you get these messages.

Note: You can still do this even if your Endurance is negative. It's just that you will only be able to click on the Wind button a couple times, then get an endurance timer that can last a while. If you are on the Str/Dex/Spd food from Ruby's Cafe, the Endurance timer can last 10-15 minutes. Whilst this doesn't impact on you being able to wind the well a couple of times (and with the Strength boost, you will do a huge boost to the spring tension), you will not be able to do anything requiring the Endurance timer (for example, swimming - you may be planning Oysters straight after, or searching for Falcons)


Repair

  • Activity: Repairing the Deep Well
  • Requires: 50 Leather and 50 Oil.
  • Supplies: Warehouse at 927, 2364 labelled "Petroleum, Deep Well Repair Materials"
  • Location: 927, 2362, on the Hill between Rock Compound and Animal Buildings
  • Level: Member and above for access to Repair Supplies, can also be done by anyone if they have their own repair supplies
  • Destination: n/a

If nobody has wound the deep well recently, then the deep well will be broken, and require repair. You can tell this by the Spring Tension reporting 0 and the menu option "Repair this Deep Well". If you're going to be around for a little while, or know others can also chip in a wind every half hour or so, then go ahead and repair

Sterile Papyrus

  • Activity: Making Sterile Papyrus
  • Requires: Papyrus Seeds
  • Supplies: Papyrus Seeds located in warehouse at 859, 2386 labelled "Papyrus Tank - 7 seeds = 35 sterile papyrus", set to Member level.
  • Location: Papyrus Compound (860, 2385)
  • Level: Initiates and above (Member and above for access to seeds)
  • Destination: Warehouse at 860, 2387 labelled "Sterile Pappy"

To help make Sterile Papyrus, we need to collect it from the Tanks and then load it with new seeds. We have 80 tanks, and you can service any number of them as you desire.

From left to right, we have an empty tank, one that's in the middle of growing, and one that has finished growing.

Empty

If tank is empty, click on it, then select Plant Papyrus. When asked how many seeds, type in 7 and then click Ok. 7 seeds will net us a yield of 35 sterile papyrus, and is the most appropriate return for effort.

Note: there's a Max button, if you click that, it will plant 100 seeds (whilst not the end of the world, the returns are not as efficient). Equally if you click Ok without typing a number, this will plant just one seed. Again, not the end of the world, but it will lock the tank out for the growing cycle and only return 7 papyrus.

Once you have planted, this will cause the tank to go into the growing stage, you won't be able to abandon or change the number of seeds. Don't panic, just let it grow whatever's there.

Growing

No action required whilst it's growing. The tank will not allow you to do anything with it, so don't worry, you can't break it :)

Harvesting

If the tank is ready to be harvested, click to Harvest it. The stock will go into your inventory, so be careful if your weight/bulk is low, you could be collecting 2,800 sterile papyrus if all tanks are ready to harvest, and all had 7 seeds. Some folks may mis-click the Max button during planting, and therefore have 700 to pick up - this can overwhelm your capacity. Take it slowly, do a few at a time until you get the hang of it.

Once harvested, you can go to the Empty section above to plant a new crop.
