News relating to the Wiki itself.

September 20, 2018

We have a new Wiki! With it comes some great changes! If you're a Wiki enthusiast, here's an overview of what to look for:

  • Semantic MediaWiki is now installed and fully functional (by popular request). Previously used semantic properties will need to be recreated as they were not functional on the Desert Nomad Wiki and were removed from all pages well over a month ago.
  • Several new extensions have been added to the Wiki which will allow lots of new functionality, mostly in creating enhanced templates. The new extensions are:
  • Improved search functionality using the Elasticsearch search engine.
  • Massive speed improvements through several layers of caching, use of content delivery networks, and other infrastructure considerations of a technical nature. Everything on the Wiki should now be blazing fast 24/7.
  • (minor) Cleaner URLs: The index.php?title= is now neatly hidden in URLs and a shorter domain name makes for a cleaner looking experience. (e.g. https://atitd.wiki/tale8/Bricks is now https://atitd.wiki/tale8/Bricks)

With these changes in place, work will now begin on overhauling a lot of content making the Wiki more robust, tidy, and accurate. If you're interested in helping out, consider joining READ - The Wiki Guild in-game. Our Guild Hall is located in Upper Egypt (829, -1833), just North of the Koptos Chariot Stop. Otherwise, we'll be active in the #wiki-editing channel on Discord, as well. If nothing else, please let us know if you have any ideas or other feedback for us and we'd also like to encourage you to fill out our one question survey about how you use the Wiki. The surveys give us a better idea how Egypt uses the Wiki and helps us know where to focus our efforts.
