Ranching 2 Tech
Malard: So before I start, Meshwesh are yet to put this technology on timer. However, if they can get it on timer (or Hyksos and Kush) wish to donate the resources to put it on timer, I am willing to forgo the timer. They are at: 744 / 940 Bacon, 319 / 470 Ham, 500 / 1175 of Metal, and 11268 / 28200 of the Treated Boards
Qwu: we have a chest [I’d like to] give to gnarph for meshis with all bacon and ham was left, but he wasn’t on since this time.
Malard: If you want me to raid the chest, I am happy to do so, but you’re still way short on the other items. If the other factions wish to help you, I am willing to show compassion
Malarquay: we will get boards done, I will do boards
Zhukuram: need a Kush Elder to decide on Kush donations
Qwu: if you can open the chest for us there is enough bacon and ham for them
MissBarbara: I wonder why Meshwesh haven't asked for help. Hyksos and Kush would probably help if we got asked to
Malard: it is your choice as a group
Zhukuram: 'cause maybe they can’t talk to Kush? we be solo to the max
Malard: you have until 9am tomorrow (my time) to put it on timer, and I will then accelerate it. That gives you 10 hours ;)
EdDaba: Our power players have been tied up this week; we've actually been chipping away at the requirements in the past few days. We'll have it sewn up soon
MissBarbara: The rest of us don’t mind to help, - but it kinda require that you reach out and ask.
Ranch Intro
Malard: okay moving on. So, Ranching level 2, if you haven’t figured it out, is about farming pigs.
Welcome a normal ranch, with Ranching 2. You can upgrade it to add Sty's. To do so, requires you have built at least a Trough.
Here be a Swinery. I have made this building public, so you can see the UI. You can convert a Cattle Ranch to a Swinery if there are no Cattle in it, but not backwards. Pigs cannot go into Cattle Ranches. Cattle cannot go into Swineries. It’s the same size [as a cattle ranch], it’s just got the mud field attached to it. Lasso [to get them in] Stockwhip is for cattle. You know how to make Pigs move, I hope. If you don’t, when you learn Ranching level 2 you get told. As long as a pig is nearby you can attach it to the ranch using the lasso.
Feeding and Breeding Pigs
So let’s move on: Feeding
You will see there are 4 bars. (btw, I am not going to give numbers, this is for you to learn). [The four bars represent Spoiled Food, Wheat, Sour Milk, and Water]
Water is used at a certain rate. As long as pigs are watered they will never starve
Unlike cattle, pigs can die, but if you keep them watered, they will stay alive, just be pissed off. If you feed them, then they will breed
Okay, so let’s talk about feeding
There are numerous Pig breeds, some may be found, some not, I am not sure.
Each Breed eats food in order.
Each breed, requires a % of each type of food stuff. So for example, between 10% and 90% of wheat (i.e. ratio mixture). Spoiled food might be a different %
So for example, Windsnyer will accept between 10% and 90% for all three types
Some breeds will enjoy a sour milk free diet
- lol Lactose Intolerant Pigs lol FUN
- as long as they ain't flatulent
- we have enough pollution
- Malard: there is no pollution from a swinery
Each breed will expect a different mixture, so you might choose to house them in different Swineries to make life easy, but it is possible to run a diverse pig mixture
"hint" And if you want to breed rare breeds, you might need a diverse pig mixture
25 pigs fit into a swinery
Q: so if all three foods are in one pen, pigs are happy?
A: again it depends on the ratio
- for example, if you end up with a 70, 9, 21 ratio
- and a breed requires a minimum of 10% wheat in their diet, then they will go hungry because the ratio is only at 9%
- you need a correct mixture of all 3 food types for the specific breed to make it breed, and both the male and female must be fed
- so for example, if you want to make X, which is a cross between Y and Z
- then you need to manage the ratios of food to keep Y and Z fed
Q: 10k food capacity is overall 'including' water?
A: same for all, water is separate
Q: is it avatar specific, or same for all?
A: same for all
Q: will they tell you they are hungry for ?
A: nope
Q: so always water and always wheat, just to keep them...alive?
A: just water to stay alive
Q: so If you have PigA that eats wheat and PigB that hates wheat - how you gonna feed them to breed xbreds?
A: they eat in sequence
- so in theory you can work out a ratio whereby the first breed eats food, changing the ratio, so the second breed now eats. That’s why you might need a chain of breeds to convert one ratio into another to get Y and Z successfully fed
I want to remind you that Pigs are hard. They are not a casual project. They are high maint.
Q: hmmm so you can’t just dump 5k wheat in the bin and hope only the wheat-loving pig eats first?
A: right
Malard: so when you add food, it doesn’t go in 1:1
- for example add 1 spoiled food, you will see it goes up 13 points
- each food type is a different prime number, just to mess with you math heads ;)
Q: I assume you can remove food from Swineries unlike Ranches?
A: you cannot remove food
- you can clean out the trough, which empties it back to zero, so don’t go long on one type of food
- When you remove food it gets wasted
Q: How many 'wild' breed is there and how many possible breed? (if you can tell those numbers)
A: All breeds can be found in the wild, some are extremely rare
Q: Even the rarest ones that we can breed?
A: Yes, but breeding is naturally easier. Well, more predictable.
Q: So it's not possible to create an entirely new breed through crossbreeding?
A: No, we were considering it, but I haven’t got onto what Pigs are for
Q: Can you trade pigs?
A: Same way you trade cattle
Angry Pigs
Malard: couple of other points
- pigs get pissed off. Pissed off pigs will try and break down the fence. You can see the fence being damaged
- so pigs can die, if you intentionally starve them. Pigs will try and escape over starving
- so if you just keep adding water, but no food, they will start to damage the fence.
- here is the damage on the fence. When it’s in this state, it’s probably a good idea to repair it. The repair costs are not that expensive. This is damaged, they haven’t broken it.
- if its like this: now its broken, so now they will escape.
- you can repair in [both] damaged and broken states. Broken is more expensive to repair
- Pissed off pigs still want feeding. They will raid nearby storage chests for all sorts of Food products. This includes warehouses, chests etc
Q: What is "near by"?
A: I suggest you try it ;) If you can cook with it, its a food stuff. Pigs don't care about ownership. This can include aging racks and anywhere you store food.
Q: will we have a warning or popup or any kind of info they raided 'this' chest and took 'this amount of food'?
A: yes
Q: What's the range of what they may eat ?
A: you will have to work that out. They wont despawn until they are happy
Q: If someone else owns a pig ranch near your camp and they don't feed their pigs or repair the fence, can you (as a non-owner) repair the fence anyway?
A: No, but you can kill the pigs when they escape ;)
Happy Pigs and Mushrooms
Q: why would we bother with these pigs?
Malard: Okay so you want Raeli? And you want Mushrooms? Pigs can find wild mushrooms when you take them out for a walk. The rarer the pig type the rarer the mushrooms they will likely find.
Q: does it still have to be in the regular mushroom spawn time?
A: No
Q: You said it was not time dependent, pigs will find shroom.... How will this work? somehow find a location with pigs & they'll spawn just for you?
A: yeah, they will bring them to the ground, much like how truffles are found
Q: can u do that with a wild pig?
A: no
Q: can you tell the pig what mushrooms to find?
A: No, however it will generally follow the rules of ecology
Happy Pigs and Soft Clay Patches
Malard: Secondly, Oddly, pigs are pretty good at finding hidden veins of Soft Clay patches that are not visible from the ground, as Scientists have been unable to devise suitable stable mechanisms for building on Clay. These are needed to find suitable locations for building Raeli ovens. What this means is you can now find more varied patches for ovens. Rarer pigs will find patches other pigs cannot find. They prospect for patches that are suitable for building an oven on. So its a good way to basically work out what a patch of ground can spawn
Q: And none of this raeli oven on every clay patch in egypt like in previous tales, I guess
A: Correct, you still cannot build on clay
Q: How do you walk your pigs?
A: You will need to make them like you, so no just arbitrarily killing your pigs. Then they will follow you like a cat, until they are pissed off because they are hungry
Q: Can you feed them "on the road"?
A: Yes, and keep it happy when its on the road
Q: can someone kill your pig while you are walking it?
A: No
Malard: fyi, Smurf has a unique pig that will always be happy. That's the only unique thing about his pig
Smurf: :) Miss Piggie and i have a "special" relationship
Q: Once you get a pig to "like" you, will it ever stop, or do you need to continue making it happy?
A: A full pig is a happy pig. full = fed
Q: Does the location of the Swinery matter?
A: Location does not matter
Q: So it doesn't matter if it's on grass, dirt, or sand?
A: no
Q: will we have pig barns like at previous event?
A: no the pig barn was an item from dragon tale, it does not fit into this game
