Flat mushrooms appear to need high levels of Soot to spawn. They are not dependent on Heavy Metals as Schizophyllum mushrooms are, but primitive furnaces generate plentiful Soot along with Heavy Metals, and you may encounter both Flats and Schizophyllum when attempting to summon Schizophyllum.
