* Experience from pulverizing gems is proportional to the amount of dust created, so calibrating a lab produces more XP per gem. A lab calibrated to level 3 produces 4x dust per gem and therefore 4x times the XP. Breaking down large gems with a Gem Shearing Chisel and then powdering them in a calibrated lab is a relatively inexpensive way to level chemistry.
