Overview
The Test of Patronage challenges players to gather more Patronage coupons than the number of tests of they have passed.
Each month, a player is entitled to receive a bonus coupon, plus one Patronage coupon for every Test they have passed (excluding Initiations). These coupons may be hoarded or donated to another player, but they become worthless at the end of that in-game month.
Players receive a score based on the number of coupons they hold, minus the number of tests they have passed. You may collect patronage coupons only once per month, so if you expect to pass one or more tests during that time, it may be to your advantage to delay picking up your coupons.
Passing the Principle
To pass principles, you need to have 14 coupons in your inventory at midnight, Egypt time.
The coupons are not expended by passing principles, so you can freely donate them to another player after passing principles.
Passing the Test
At midnight on the last day of each game month, players receive a score based on the number of coupons they hold in their inventory, minus the number of tests they've passed. To pass the test, players will need to obtain more coupons than their default allotment; this means persuading fellow Egyptians to donate their patronage coupons to the player's cause.
The seven highest scorers at the end of the month will pass the test. Scoring is not cumulative from one month to the next.
Scoring Examples
Player A has passed 10 tests. They receive 11 coupons (1 for each test, plus 1 bonus coupon). Those coupons are worth 11 points, but 10 points are deducted at the end of the month (-1 point for each test passed). At the end of the month, they will receive 1 point.
Player B has passed 4 tests. They rush to the university at the start of the month, and collect their allotment of 5 coupons (1 per test, plus 1 bonus coupon). However, the next week, they pass 2 additional tests. Because they have already collected their coupons for the month, they will be unable to receive coupons for the additional tests until the following month. Their score at the end of this month will be -1: 5 points for the coupons they hold, minus 6 points for the number of tests passed.
Player C has also passed 4 tests, but on Day 20 of that month, they pass 2 additional tests. They then head to the university to collect their 7 coupons (1 per test, plus 1 bonus coupon). They also manage to beg, bribe, or barter 8 additional coupons from their fellow Egyptians, giving them a total of 15 coupons. Their final score is 9 points: 15 points from the coupons they hold, minus 6 points for the tests they have passed.
Player D has passed 2 tests, and collects 3 coupons from the university. They manage to convince their fellow Egyptians to hand over a whopping 47 coupons. Unfortunately, they leave the coupons in a chest, and when the end of the month comes around, they score -2 points: -1 for each test passed, and nothing for the 50 coupons crumbling into dust in a chest. Player D ragequits. Don't be Player D, and keep your coupons in your inventory during scoring.
