Knapping

From A Wiki in the Desert

Knapping is the process of taking two pieces of stone, like Flint, and striking them together to make one sharpened piece, for making tools like knives.
When Knapping, there are two possible outcomes, creating a blade (e.g. Flint Blade), or a failure which consumes one or both pieces of stone.
As your Knapping skill improves, failures are less likely.

The Knapping skill allows Slate to be shattered into Slate Blades using the menu option Skills → Blades → Knap a Slate Blade and costs 2 Slate per Slate Blade created.

Creating Slate Blades

Creating a Slate Blade requires 2 Slate. Each time you attempt to make a Slate Blade, one of three things will happen to the 2 Slate used:

  • 1 Slate will shatter and be lost, and 1 will break cleanly, forming a Slate Blade.
  • 2 Slate will shatter and be lost.
  • 1 Slate will shatter and be lost, and 1 Slate will remain intact.

A higher skill level will decrease the chance of failing. At the maximum skill, you have a 100% success chance of creating a Slate Blade.

Blade Fabrication

Various knife blades can be made. You must be at the correct level and have completed all 7 levels of proficiency for the previous blade type before you can learn the next level.

Blade types and Carving Skill are not the same. Blade Skill allows the crafting of particular types of knives. Carving Skill allows the whittling of various objects. The kinds of objects you can make with Carving Skill maybe be dependent on the type of blade you wield.
