Update
As some of you might have noticed, I've not logged into ATITD for quite a long while. I've decided to bow out early from this tale; I wasn't getting into it early on, and it's now been such a long time that I don't think I'm likely to.
Thinking about it, there are three reasons why I've not been able to get into it.
- The whole lockdown thing. You'd think that being forced to work from home would make playing more appealing, but I found I was withdrawing from a lot of things. My writing and music took a big hit. Even complex games weren't working out for me, and this is a particularly complex game. It all got a bit much.
- Proximity to the last tale. I did VERY well in Tale 9 - made huge progress in many tests that I'd never had much luck with before, really got involved in things, and it was just a shame that things tailed off a bit by the end. Then Tale 10 started, and I got really excited - and I felt like I'd done it all before too recently, and that, rather than gaining all those skills again, I'd effectively lost all that work.
- The new research approach. I'm sorry, but I really hate it. In the past, if a research project needed something, it was easy - you made what you could, you donated it to your nearest university and that was it. Now there are laboratories all over the map, and what they need and where you need to take them are a constant headache to figure out. I used to feel like I was contributing; now I feel like I need to ask what's needed where and that other people are already handling it. Biography
Artinum is a perpetually confused but well-meaning avatar scratching together a decent living in the world of Ancient Egypt. He is supported in this lifestyle by the vast amount of time he spends in the role of a middle aged software packager several thousand years in the future. It's a tedious game, but it pays the bills and keeps him in onions.
When he's not tending sheep, making bricks or wondering whether cicadas are mythical, Artinum also writes novels and obeys the whims of the cat.
Based in UK, so normally on GMT (except during daylight savings). I also work a full time job, so I'm mostly evenings and weekends, but potentially could appear in the day for special cases now I'm working from home...
Who is Munitra?
Munitra is a clone created to help with some of those tasks that work better with another pair of hands. She isn't very chatty, but she's usually happy to pitch in. It appears that I can run two sessions at once for Tale 10 (hurrah!) so they'll often appear together for digs, etc.
If you haven't figured it out yet, try reading her name backwards.
Completed Goals
Artinum and Munitra are now both set up with a private guild set up so they can share buildings and supplies, and most of their opening tasks are now done.

Munitra is not a member of any guilds beyond the one used to share equipment and supplies with Artinum.
Research Goals
None of my own, but I'm always happy to pitch in where I can.
Testing out (in my own small way) a hypothesis about the dreaded sheep pox. Could it be that slaughtering sheep in a pen can occasionally trigger it? I am now avoiding slaughtering in the main pen but taking them up the road to a public one. If the pox returns, I'll know it isn't that.
Pearl Tracker Template
- If a pearl is identified as being a particular colour, put a Y in that box and mark the other colours with X.
- If a pearl of a particular colour is completely wrong, put an X in that colour for all your pearls of that size.
- If a pearl of a particular colour is right but in the wrong place, put an X against that colour/pearl and a ? in all potential pearl slots.
- Note that the huge pearl can be any colour.
- Use the Notes column for any additional thoughts.
- Don't throw away pearls that don't fit - they may come in handy later.
