Hint #1

The key to solving this kind of puzzle is to look for words that fit the spaces. For instance, the word CATS fits neatly into the first four-letter word on the top row. Crossing those letters out leaves only two letters in some of those columns, which makes it easier to figure out the other words.













Hint #2

The solution is a quote by TERRY PRATCHETT, whose name appears in the bottom row of the main puzzle.
