Appreciation

From A Wiki in the Desert

Status

Peacefulness #25 has a deleted gene, the last R in the sequence, and it is being crossed with itself to eliminate another R gene. Its genome is:

KGYRYRYYRYYRYYK

Work is being continued on the Appreciation15 page.

Still trying! Goal is to create a vine whose genome is only Y, with the obligatory K on either end. When a drop of mutagen is applied to

  • a vine with only Y, (shortened version of Appreciation) and
  • a vine with everything but Y, (shortened version of Contemplation)

revelation solvents will show exactly where the genome change took place.

Current Project

Attempting to shorten the genome for Appreciation vines. Crossing with Nut's Essence can produce:

  • a child identical to the parents (50% of the time), 22/44
  • a child that is 15 genes long (25% of the time), 11/44
  • a child that is 17 genes long (25% of the time), 11/44

Results which have mutations can be detected through

  • Molecular Balance (not fully researched)
  • Revelation Solvents
  • Analysis of vineyard tends
    • No Change: 22 of 44 results will show the same tends and be genetically identical to the parents, three Quality genomes and no Sugar genomes (wild)
    • Sneaky Change: 7 of 44 results have a mutation that can ONLY be detected with Revelation Solvents or Molecular Balance. 6 are longer, 1 is shorter, but they do not change the function of the vine.
    • Hue: 4 of 44 results will show changes in the Hue. 1 is longer, 3 are shorter.
      • In the barrel Appreciation grapes have shown as Light Red wine.
      • Harvested Appreciation grapes will display "Hue: Light Red" when examined through Skills > Viticulture.
      • Expecting that a vine without the Hue genome will show as White wine.
    • Quality: 11 of 44 results will show changes in the Quality tends.
    • Sugar: 6 of 44 results will show changes in the Sugar tends.

Starting Point: 16 genes

two Appreciation vines (one renamed). The goal is to get all the R genes out, and the G, if possible.

Tends to Avoid

They give ambiguous results for these vines

  • Fat SL, need the tend for QQQ. Also Q = QQ
  • Fat SV, wildS = S
  • Fat TL, Q = QQ
  • Fat TV, wildS = SS
  • Musty AS, Q = QQQ
  • Rustle MG, wildS = S
  • Rustle SL, wildS = SS
  • Rustle SV, Q = QQQ
  • Sagging AS, Q = QQ and wildS = SS
  • Sagging PO, wildS = S
  • Shimmer MG, wildS = SS
  • Wilting AS, Q = QQQ

More Details

Peacefulness#8

conclusion: this cross has a 1/29 chance of having a shorter genome
early tends match QQQ, wildS.
Hue in the barrel is Light Red, same as Appreciation.

  • 22/44, identical to parents, 16 genes.
  • 6/44, gained a gene, 17 genes.
  • 1/44, lost a gene, 15 genes.
Peacefulness#9

Conclusion: This cross has a 1/29 chance of having a shorter genome

  • First tend was Musty AS. Poor choice of tend. Q and QQQ both have the same quality change.
  • Tends 2 through 7 match QQQ, wildS
  • Current possibilities: 33 of 44 combinations yield QQQ, wildS
    • 22/33, no change to the genome
    • 7/33, gene added
    • 4/33, gene removed
  • In the barrel, Peacefulness#9 is Light Red
    • 29/33 QQQ wildS Light Red Hue (H)
      • 22/33 no change to the genome
      • 6/33 gene added.
      • 1/33 gene removed
    • 4/33 QQQ wildS, White Hue (wildH)
      • 1/4 gene added.
      • 3/4 gene removed
Peacefulness#10

Conclusion: This cross has a 1/29 chance of having a shorter genome

  • Four tends match QQQ wildS
  • Two tends, Q values negative (no data), wildS
  • Hue is Light Red
Peacefulness#11
  • Four tends match QQQ wildS
Peacefulness#12

This vine has a 1 in 7 chance of being shorter

  • Revelation Solvents show that it is longer.
  • However, both possibilities have a doubled Y gene, which may be helpful.

Freshly planted vine, 0 Quality.

  • First tend (Musty TL) gave no increase in grape quality.
    • Q should give -4 quality. Could be this vine
    • QQ should give -5 quality. Could be (is) this vine
    • QQQ does give +6 quality. Verified with an Appreciation vine. This vine is not QQQ.
    • QQQQ tends not documented. Could be this vine
  • 11 vines have a change in Q. 4 are longer, 7 are shorter.
  • All of those vines have Light Red Hue.
  • First tend gave a change in sugar that matches S, not the wildS in Appreciation.
    • 7/44 vines are S. They are also all QQ.
      • 6/7 are longer
      • 1/7 is shorter
  • Second tend matches Shrivel PO for QQ S
  • Third tend matches Shrivel SV for QQ S
  • Fourth tend matches Wilting TL for QQ S
    • The length of the genome can now only be determined through Molecular Balance or Revelation Solvents.

Revelation Solvent results show that this vine has a gene added. Back to the Nut's Essence.

Peacefulness#13
  • tend 1 matches QQQ wildS
  • tend 2 matches QQQ wildS
  • tend 3 matches QQQ wildS
  • tend 4 matches QQQ, can't tell on the S.
  • Grape hue is WHITE! :D
    • 3/4 of the white-hued grapes have a shorter genome!

Next step, get more cuttings and dunk in revelation solvents

Peacefulness#13 Revelation Solvent results show that this mutation has an additional gene. Not a shorter genome.

Peacefulness#14
  • first tend matches QQQ wildS
  • second tend matches QQQ wildS
  • third tend matches QQQ, can't tell on S
  • Hue is Light Red

Vine has a 1/29 chance of having a shorter genome

Peacefulness #15
  • first tend matches QQQ wildS
Peacefulness#20
  • tends 1,3,4,5 match QQ and S
    • 7 mutations give QQ S H
      • 1/7 is shorter, a deleted gene
      • 6/7 are longer, a duplicated gene
  • tend 2 matches QQ, and possibly S
  • all possibilities have H, so harvesting will not give additional clues

wait for molecular balance

Peacefulness#25
  • tend 1: QQQ is a positive tend. Q value did not change from zero
    • Q possibilities are Q and QQ
  • tend 2: Eight possibilities match QQ and wildS. Could also be QQQQ, whose tends are unknown.
    • 1/8 is a Y gene duplicated, giving QQQQ
      • not a bad thing, since we want all Y genes
    • 7/8 are a gene deleted, giving QQ wildS
      • 1/7 deletes an R
      • 6/7 delete a Y
  • Molecular Balance: showed that this vine is shorter.

Revelation Solvents show that the genome must be:
KGYRYRYYRYYRYYK

Peacefulness#26
  • tend 1: matches QQS
    • 1/7 chance of being a gene deletion
    • 6/7 chance of being a gene duplication
  • Hue is Light Red
