A Blast Furnace is a moderately-advanced type of furnace, used to smelt ore into metal.

One run of a Blast Furnace takes 10 minutes. It can convert 1000 ore and 10 charcoal into 60 metal. However, output is halved (max 30 metal) if the furnace is allowed to run to the end. Thus, for optimal results, you must be around to open the furnace just before the 10-minute mark.

If you want to use a fire-and-forget method with a Blast Furnace, then you can load the furnace with only 9 charcoal, so that the furnace runs out of fuel before the 10-minute mark. This method will convert a batch of 1000 ore into 54 metal.

Sources

This building becomes available after you have learned the Mining 2 and Stonework 2 tech and the Mining 2 (Skill) and Stonework 3 (Skill) skill.

Compare all Furnaces.

Use

Uses Charcoal for fuel.

Operation

  • Holds up to 1000 ore
  • Holds up to 10 Charcoal
  • Burns 1 Charcoal per minute for a maximum of 10 minutes
  • 30 metal after 10 mins
  • 60 metal if opened just before 10 mins
  • Note that the 60 metal recipe is twice more CC efficient than Gyration Cell.
